Katerynchuk: Constitution is to become instrument of Ukraine’s entering EU

“The main reason of necessity of amending the Constitution consists in the fact that it doesn’t correspond to European standards of democracy (stated by Venetian commission)”, - leader of the European party of Ukraine, member of the Constitution Council Mykola Katerynchuk thinks. That’s what he said in his interview to the correspondent of the website RAZOM.

To his mind, that slows down reforms in the state.

“The Constitution doesn’t consolidate the society in its way to political stability. On the contrary it leads to conflicts between different branches of power. That’s why the Constitution needs changes, it should become the instrument of Ukraine’s entering the EU”, - Mr. Katerynchuk is sure.

The MP noticed that he wanted to see renewing principle of giving constitutional authorities through the law on counterbalance, strengthening parliamentarism in Ukraine, reform of justice and law-enforcement systems, giving more authorities to organs of local self-government.

“And more changes reflecting spirit, philosophy and principles of Lisbon Agreement, signed by the EU states this year”, - Mr. Katerynchuk added.
