The Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is ready to directly head the Our Ukraine, if this is the will of the party’s congress.

That’s what he disclosed in an interview to UNIAN.

Viktor Yushchenko stressed he highly assessed the level of democracy inside the Our Ukraine.

The president is interested in democratic means of electing party chiefs of all levels. «Only a party congress may make a choice», the president noted.

The head of state added that the president’s chief of staff Viktor Baloha, the Our Ukraine faction leader Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, the ex-interior minister Yuri Lutsenko deserved to occupy the post of the party leader.

»This question will be openly raised at the congress. You will see how it will be solved. You will not have an impression that Viktor Yushchenko or Viktor Baloha are shuffling the cards at Bankova» – the president said. He added that people would make a choice.

Answering the question if people chose him, Viktor Yushchenko said: «It will be like that then.»

According to him, the party is at the stage of resurrection and new people, who are able to declare party goals better and openly, come to the party.

Viktor Yushchenko is deeply convinced that the party is built in a right way and the party goals are «unique for national interests». They are patriotic feelings, European integration, consecutive economic reforms etc. «No matter how hard it is, these ideas will always be winning and prospective» - Mr. Yushchenko is convinced.

The president noted that there were problems within the party, because it became dependent on an internal coalition struggle for a place under the sun. According to him, it had been imposed from without.

He also emphasized that most «dead cats» that had been imposed on the Our Ukraine party did not reflect the party’s spirit and the spirit of its political leaders.
