People’s deputy, member of the Our Ukraine faction Yuri Klyuchkovskyi thinks that the question of the necessity to increase the passing barrier at elections will be initiated in the nearest time.
»I want to remind that when a proportional system of elections was introduced, a passing barrier was 4%. Now it is 3%. It is inefficient if lower and discriminatory if higher. It might be changed in the framework of 3-5%» – Mr. Klyuchkovskyi noted.
»There are a number of proposals to fix the passing barrier at 7% and even 9%. I think, it means a formation of a two-party system in Ukraine. – The MP noted. – I want to emphasize that 9% is really discriminatory, it may lead to a two-party system artificially, violating the bases of a proportional system.»
Mr. Klyuchkovskyi noted that the barrier’s rise would make a considerable number of people lose their votes.
»Debates will take place. We will see how they will end – the MP is convinced. – I think it could be appropriate to increase the barrier up to 5%. But it is unjust and inappropriate to make it higher».
